Helping Geriatric Pets

  • Aging pets are some of those most clearly benefited by massage. The immediate release of discomfort is clearly appreciated and easily visible on the face of a pet that needs it, and the calming effects of receiving a massage is especially releasing to the older dog. Pets late in life often keep things quite simple; they need food and water, want a soft and warm place to lie, and they want most to have the completion that comes from the love and interaction of a human counterpart. Massage again, helps to meld all of these things together with a common bond- lessening of pain, feeling better from overcoming some of the physical side effects of aging, the lessening of stress that can accompany anxiety over things which may not have bothered them when they were younger and more resilient, or more mentally stable, and being close to a human who conveys tender and caring touch.
